Summer in the Southside: Movie Night at Cooper

As August marches into September and the seasons begin to change, Brooklynites are reluctant to let the last semblance of summer slip through our fingers. While the McCarren Park movie series and the East River State Park pool party concerts might as well be distant memories, Williamsburg has one more summertime event to look forward to. And this time, it’s isn’t on the Northside.
On September 12th, Town Square will host their first-ever movie night in Cooper Park, in Southeast Williamsburg, and will be showing Howl’s Moving Castle.
Town Square, with the help of a handful of dedicated Southsiders, has been wanting to bring programming to Cooper Park for quite some time, and are excited to see it come to fruition.
“There’s no programming in this park, and it’s about the community getting together for the first time and have some fun events here,” said Williamsburg resident Carolina Asirifi, who was instrumental in planning the event. “We hope to inspire other community groups to have events at the park as well, and we’ve reached out to then to showcase what they’re doing, they will be setting up tables. It’s a great park, great community and great way to get the neighbors together.”
Cooper Park was recently given a new play ground, and what better way to break it in than with an evening of free family fun? Hey, it’s not autumn yet!
