Cuts, Cappuccinos, and Cocktails at This Barbershop

It’s been three months since the jack-of-all-trades Blind Barber opened its doors in Williamsburg, but only now is it settling into its environs with this week’s launch of a full-fledged café menu served in the coffee shop out front, alongside the barbershop that operates in the back.

Large windows frame the wood-paneled entrance to the coffee shop-cum-bar-cum-barbershop located on Lorimer Street. The shop is marked by its high ceilings, white oak paneling, and marble countertops where lattes are served alongside wines, beers, and a menu that consists of egg white sandwiches with kale served on a toasted roll; cauliflower gratin with endive; and pastrami, Swiss and apricot grilled cheese.

Just beyond the coffee shop, warehouse-style lamps hang above the barbershop chairs. And custom-made steel workstations with pivoting trays give the barbers access to their tools.

“Whether it’s a cold drink after work, a great cut in the shop, or a pomade that makes your hair just right, we aim to be the essential ingredient to making ‘you feel like you,’” said Jeff Laub, who along with Josh Boyd and Adam Kirsch founded the Blind Barber franchise in 2011. “Our customers have come to expect a quality product and a unique experience from us. It’s exciting to be able to offer our guests an expanded vision of our brand.”

Blind Barber’s first location opened in the East Village, in Manhattan, in 2011 followed by a second one in Los Angeles the next year. The franchise quickly developed a cult following, characterized by long waits to get a spot and frequent appearances on best barbershop lists for New York City.

Building on that success, the trio has launched a range of grooming products that are sold at all three locations. And the debut of an exclusively Brooklyn-line is planned for the Lorimer location soon.
