The Greenpoint YMCA celebrated another successful year at its annual campaign victory celebration held at Fornino Restaurant on Manhattan Avenue Tuesday night.
Dozens of people gathered in the back of the restaurant, where tables were lined with balloons, a podium was set up in the center of the room, and a projection screen played through some of the Greenpoint Y’s annual achievements.
Salami, cheeses, olives, and a selection of pastas were up for the taking for guests at the celebration.
The YMCA had increased its fundraising goal to $165,000 this year after successfully raising $160,000 last year.
As of Tuesday the organization had managed to raise just over 90 percent of its goal, according to Keith Hicks, the Executive Director of the Greenpoint YMCA.
“We usually have these types of events at the Y,” said Hicks. “But this time we decided to be supportive of another venue because we figured we have so many good venues in the neighborhood and it is important for us to collaborate with businesses in Greenpoint.”
A number of the Greenpoint Y’s benefactors, including ExxonMobil, United Metro, and Nancy Mauro, were honored at Tuesday’s fete.
The YMCA’s annual campaign fund ensures that no teenagers or families are turned away from utilizing the center’s programs due to a lack of funds. At present the Y provides over 4,000 kids in Greenpoint and Williamsburg with low-cost programs, and the fundraiser allows the organization to continue that work.
