Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, along with Congressman Jerry Nadler, the New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health (NYCOSH), the New York AFL-CIO and the Uniformed Firefighters Association joined 9/11 first responders and survivors, as well as other advocacy groups at 7 World Trade Center this week to urge eligible 9/11 first responders and survivors to apply for economic compensation through the September 11th James Zadroga Act’s Victim Compensation Fund (VCF). The deadline to apply for coverage is October 3, 2013.
Maloney co-authored and Nadler co-sponsored the Act., which provides health care and economic compensation for first responders and survivors of the 9/11 terrorist attacks as well as their family members.
“It is so important that we make sure that anybody who is eligible for VCF coverage knows what is available to him or her,” Maloney said. “Responders and survivors can apply for compensation for economic and non-economic losses — such as pain and suffering — that resulted from injuries. Many of these men and women were there for us in our darkest hour. Now, we need to be there for them.”
