Closet Organizing: Greenpoint Style

What are you wearing to work tomorrow?

Are you a “get up and see what I feel like” kinda person or are you a planner and pick out your outfit before you go to bed? Do you turn on the television in the morning to see the weather before you head out the door? Do you give yourself 20 seconds to figure out what you’re wearing or do you give yourself 2 hours to choose your armor for the upcoming battle of a day?

Now let’s be clear. We’re not speaking of your morning ritual of how long it takes you to get ready. We’re talking about how long it takes you to CHOOSE what you are wearing. Do you swing open the closet door with high hopes that something magically new has appeared in the middle of the night? Does it depress you to open your closet door and see the same old thing, different day? Does choosing an outfit for work stress you out? Are you stuck in the same style that you just can’t shake? If you answered yes to any of the above, you aren’t alone. There are millions of women (and men) who really struggle with one of the first decisions of the day: What am I wearing today?

Check out this tip via one of our fave morning talk shows:

Go into your closet and hang all of your clothes backward with the hanger tip showing.

When you come home and strip the day off of you (your clothes), when you put them back you hang them forward as normal.

In about a month you will have a clear inventory of what your favorites are because they will be “marked” with the hanger hanging forward, not backward. (See picture above).

Anything hanging backward after a 6 month to 1 year period you guessed it; it’s outta here. Put it in your “buy, sell, trade” pile. This should help you speed up your decision in the morning as you already know what you are wearing ‘to death’ and haven’t worn lately.

An easy, fast way to keep your clothes organized into an ‘I look super cute in this’ section and an ‘I’m totally over it’ section. Then, you will be ready to reevaluate the backward section to pitch, buy, sell, trade or cycle back into your “front” section.

Where to buy, sell, or trade, you may ask? Trade up, get the cash or buy new goods at the following local clothing fountains of youth:

•Beacon’s Closet 88 N. 11th Street in Williamsburg

•Buffalo Exchange 504 Driggs Avenue in Williamsburg

•Fox & Fawn 570 Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint
