Camp Frolic! Sneak Peek: Milk and Cookies and Rock ‘n’ Roll

North Brooklyn’s rockingest kids can get a sneak peek this Friday at one of the area’s hippest summer activities.

Camp Frolic!, presented by the North 6th Street Rock ‘n’ Roll play space of the same name, returns for its third season this June, to bring little rockers ten weeks of music making, songwriting, arts and crafts, storytelling, musical theater, cooking and various science-related activities.

The camp will be open to kids aged 3 to 5 and will run June 23rd through August 29th. Building on its past two years’ success, Camp Frolic! will offer a day long program from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with an option to extend until 6 p.m. In past years, only a half-day option, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., which remains available, was offered.

The tots will have a bigger array of activities to choose from too, including rock-themed classes covering everything from the British Invasion to “I Love the ‘80s.” Weekly themes include Pop Superstar Week, Grunge Week, Motown Week and Glam Rock & Glitter Week.

“We’ve really seen the program grow over the past couple of years,” said Carey Balogh, one of the co-founders and owners of Frolic! “The growth has really been because people keep coming back and more want to participate. We try to make it more colorful and creative arts oriented each year. This year we’re also incorporating activities in science and cooking.”

Balogh founded the camp along with another Williamsburg mom, Julia Dawson. The duo both left careers in the fashion industry to create Frolic!, a 5,000 square foot arts-related activity and play space for kids under age of six and their parents.

At Friday’s Open House, families will meet the camp director, snack on treats like s’mores and take part in a raffle to win a full day at the camp.

Prices vary from $125 a day if you register for 4 to 5 days at a time and can go as low as $110 a day if you sign up for 10 or more days.
