Shop at Greenpointers’ 2nd Annual Holiday Market

For the second straight year, Greenpointers is getting Greenpointers into the holiday spirit at their Holiday Market. The hyperlocal blog will host the event on Saturday, December 8th, from noon to 6pm at West Street Indonesian wood furniture store and warehouse from the source.

“Greenpointers is passionate about local shopping and is excited to present many local vendors, artists and designers,” said the blog’s owner Jen Galatioto.

Rather than pushing through a crowded Macy’s or Old Navy to buy another mass-produced sweater, customers can browse the eclectic tables at the Holiday Market to find a unique, locally-made gift and thus keep holiday commerce in the neighborhood.

North Brooklyn, and Greenpoint especially, is home to many creative, independent retailers. There’s no need to travel far to shop when you can visit places like Domestic Construction and from the source, located right around the corner.

The Greenpoint Holiday Market will host 46 local artisans, designers and creators this year according to Victoria Varney, who is coordinating the event with Galatioto. “We could not be more excited for the caliber of products—at accessible price points—we’ve been able to curate and put under one roof for easy, fun local holiday shopping!” she said.

The spacious from the source warehouse will provide plenty of room for the vendors. “Last year [the Market] was in the basement of the Lutheran Church of the Messiah, which is charming in its own church basement kind of way,” said Galatioto. “This year it’s in an amazing raw industrial space [used as a] designer furniture showroom.”

In keeping with the artistic spirit of the neighborhood, Greenpointers is having a professional interior designer style the space, using the warehouse’s history as a rope factory as the theme. “We hope to transform the space into a magical crafty wonderland, with unique and handmade gifts for everyone,” explained Galatioto. “We’ll also have a photo booth and a DIY gift wrap station.” There will also be food and a bar serving festive, holiday drinks. “The market has definitely grown tremendously from last year in size and quality!” Galatioto declared.

Many gifts on sale have been hand-crafted. Artisans from Artswilde will be offering beautiful and functional ceramic bowls. And With Roots will be selling a very unique gift – mini terrariums that can be worn as necklaces.

Domestic Construction will be selling creative floor mats to brighten up the home, a perfect gift for someone with interior designer aspirations. For a friend or family member who loves to cook, Greenpoint Trading Company is offering their carefully crafted spices and seasonings, and Mike’s Hot Honey will be offering their signature spicy honey. “Conceived as a pizza condiment, Mike’s Hot Honey is a chili pepper-infused honey made in Greenpoint. It’s a delicious pairing with cheeses, fruits, roasted vegetables, fried chicken, seafood, pizza and many other foods,” said founder Mike Kurtz. “We’ll be selling our 12oz/340g bottles at the Market.”

For an eco-conscious girlfriend, you can choose a piece of jewelry made from 100% recycled materials by Hecho en Brooklyn. Many clothing companies will also be at the Market including I’m So Brooklyn Apparel, which offers graphic tees, Miss Havisham Vintage, which offers vintage sweaters and dresses, and Kordal with warm, hand-knie items.

And for those wanting to slide by the season by just getting cards for everyone, you’re in luck! Many Brooklyn artists, such as Cat Gilbert, will be selling their own hand-made cards.

The Holiday Market is sponsored by WG News + Arts and online marketplace krrb.com. Visit the latter for a list of the Market’s vendors.

The event ensures that everyone in Greenpoint benefits. Local businesses are given a chance to showcase their wares, and shoppers are able to pick out a wonderful gift without straying into the madness of midtown. Last but not least, your loved ones will appreciate receiving a hand-crafted gift made right here in Greenpoint!
