The Brooklyn Nets cheerleaders, dubbed the Brooklynettes, chose the Northside for their first official appearance.

Brooklynite India Bolds, 26, was one of those who made the cut. The Athens, Georgia native is looking forward to being a member of the Brooklynettes.
“We’re really excited that Brooklyn finally has a basketball team,” Bolds said. “We’re excited to represent [the Nets].”
The audition process began on June 2nd with more than 400 hopefuls from across the country trying out at Long Island University’s Brooklyn campus. While a large percentage of the team is composed of New Jersey residents; others represent California, North Carolina, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Two of the cheerleaders reside in Brooklyn.
“’Brooklynette’ exemplifies a strong feminine name with a creative connection to the borough,” said Petra Pope, Senior Vice President of Event Marketing and Community Relations with the Nets. “The 20 talented dancers selected tonight are diverse in their interests, global in their backgrounds, and cutting-edge in their style, just like Brooklyn.”

The Brooklynettes will perform at the Nets’ 41 home games at the new Barclays Center in Prospect Heights and represent the team at events throughout the metropolitan area.
While the NBA has yet to announce their schedule for 2012-13, the Nets will tip off their inaugural season in Brooklyn in late October.
