There isn’t much to do on Kingsland Avenue right near the BQE. The area is mostly industrial, and traffic consists mostly of trucks heading towards the highway. It’s an unlikely spot for a neighborhood hangout, which is just one of the reasons why One Stop Beer Shop is already a popular destination for North Brooklynites.
The bar, which opened on December 28th, serves 16 beers on draft and 84 bottled beers. They also offer a rare concoction: the beer cocktail ($9), a combination of an alcohol enthusiast’s favorite drinks. There’s the MiShinelada, made up of original moonshine, tomato juice, lime juice, sriracha sauce, Tabasco, and topped with Brooklyn Lager; the Redneck Mimosa (orange liqueur and orange juice, with Double White Ale), and Dark & Smoky, which comes with moonshine, agave, rosemary, canton, and stone smoked porter. “People have been loving the cocktails,” said owner Benjamin Roshia. “We’ve been selling a lot of these cocktails and everyone who tries them is thrilled by them. It’s totally new and no one on the East Coast is really doing it.”

One Stop Beer Shop is also making a name for itself by selling growlers, 64-ounce amber jugs that purge out the oxygen in beer, replacing it with CO2. This makes them last for 30 days. Twelve of the 16 draft beers are available to take home in the growlers, which cost as little as $4.99.
Unlike many area bars, One Stop is well lit, and spacious, allowing for some breathing room Roshia says the L-shaped bar was designed to promote social interaction. The bartenders (or, as he likes to call them, tapsters) are knowledgeable, and with each drink comes a free, in depth description, as well as a bowl of popcorn topped with their secret spicy sauce. “We like anyone who wants to come in and learn about a good beer from our tapsters,” said Roshia. “If anyone from a beginner to an expert comes in and asks about beer, our experts will be able to answer the questions.”

One Stop also offers more substantial fare, such as pulled pork sandwiches and grilled cheese (the bread is from Nunzio’s and the cheese is from Murray’s). Expect personal pizzas and soups on the menu in the next few weeks. Although the bar already has numerous beers on tap, they are planning to add more. Once or twice a month, they are going to hold beer tastings to determine which to include.
The first few nights at the bar were packed, which Roshia attributes to their unique theme and location. “We are one of the few bars in the area,” he said. “Our concept is very attractive to people. They like coming in, picking up growlers, having a nice conversation, listening to some good music, and having some beer. It’s just a nice place to hang out.”
