The Lone Wolf Bar
Being a resident of Bushwick, I find the area lacks a consistently strong venue for intoxication and conjugation. That was the case until three weeks ago, when The Lone Wolf Bar opened up at 1089 Broadway, on the corner of Dodworth under the JMZ. Upon arriving at the bar you are greeted by its marquee, that without words, brightly displays a wolf’s head that graphically reminded me of an image one might see branded on the back of a motorcycle rider’s leather jacket. On the front doors are two pray-painted stencils that read: “PBR & Shot $5” and “Bud & Shot $6”. Immediately you are greeted with good art and great deals.
Inside you are met with vintage and rustic furnishings: a dark wooden bar that is beautifully decorated with a hand-painted lining, a refurbished large metal fridge that looks like it could withstand the blast from an atomic bomb and an analog jukebox with an amazing selection of music. Past the bar is a large open space, with DJ booth, that functions as a dance floor and venue space, and a tantalizing pinball machine (currently on free play all night) that had me sucked in for several games.
The drink selections are simple but delicious. Three different canned beers, six bottled beers and no draft. Behind the bar, along with the beer and friendly staff, their impressive whiskey selection is on display (yum!) and below is the rest of their spirits.
Once imbibed, I took to exploring the rest of the bar where I had found myself poking around the spacious basement outfitted with a pool table. The basement is still being constructed and access to it varies depending on the night, but it is a sight to be seen.
All in all, this is a space reminiscent of a rock’n’roll motorcycle-riding dive bar but has a modern and artistic update that makes it a comfortable place for all patrons. While it might be a small hike into Bushwick, it is absolutely worth the trip to see the neighborhood’s newest and coolest bar.
