THE FREAKS COME OUT AT NIGHT, AT THE LOOM

On Friday, November 5th the GG witnessed the fashion zombies coming out at night for the ‘First Friday’ event at The LOOM in Bushwick. The unique shopping experience at Loom resides at 1087 Flushing Avenue in Bushwick, Brooklyn. The monthly ‘First Fridays’ are aimed to bring stores together to promote customer appreciation and a sense of community between the individual and diverse businesses at the Loom.
The night started out in the lobby with drinks and schmoozing with the designers and business owners. Tomahawk Salon was working hard applying Zombie make-up and creating fabulous hair styles straight from the grave. All of the Zombie models were greeting patrons as the stores had all of their doors wide open, inviting customers in to bring them a unique shopping experience.

The fashion show began with the Zombies dragging their body parts down the runway showing off the designs of Co-Op Better Than Jam, Tomahawk Salon and Vintage store Closet Envi. Designers included Ministry of Culture, 15 New York City, Melissa Bell, Book HOMME, Hand of Fatima Jewelry, KimmChi , Himane and more. These designers can be found at the Better Than Jam Co-Op, which is a large collaboration of local designers from Brooklyn and the surrounding areas. This unique smorgasbord of designers create a fresh, unique way to shop as their inventory is constantly changing bringing you edgy, off the cuff, hand-made, eco-friendly items! Each designer represented at the Better Than Jam uses their own creative spark and flair to bring a new angle to the store. No matter what your style may be, you can be sure to find something for yourself that you will not see duplicated on the street.
Walking into Tomahawk Salon throws you into a world of colorful art, unlikely collectibles and new age fashion and accessories that will keep you browsing for hours. This amazing place isn’t just a salon; it’s a fashion and accessory boutique where you can find the most unusual designer brands from the West Coast. Come in for a haircut and each stylist at Tomahawk will consult you on the best look for your face shape to body type. Come in to shop for that perfect jaw dropping piece to add to your outfit and watch them style you from top to bottom! Make sure that you don’t forget to check out their accessory counter for everything “hair” as their funky collection of sunglasses and hair accessories are created with love by one of their staff. You have to see it for yourself to believe it! Fabulous!
Right next door at Closet Envi, if you didn’t grow up in the 1980’s you will sure feel like you did when you get morphed back into the ‘good ol’ days when we were rockin’ the Wranglers and Vidal Sassons! This quaint store has a mix of men’s and women’s vintage, shoes and accessories that are individually hand-picked and showcased for the true vintage junkie! They will find you the perfect dress or accessory to make you the showstopper at your next event. Prices are unbelievably reasonable and the clothes are in near new condition. A super fun place to shop and a very helpful, knowledgeable staff of vintage experts will surely help you create your own vintage look.
